Position Overview

As a Trainee Accountant, you will undergo a structured training programme aligned with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) requirements. You will receive practical exposure to accounting operations, financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and other critical finance functions. The programme ensures that trainees develop into well-rounded accounting professionals capable of contributing effectively to Shoprite’s finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

Professional Development

• Participate in the Shoprite Trainee Accountant Programme to gain hands-on experience in various finance functions.

• Develop technical accounting skills aligned with SAICA competencies.

• Prepare for the SAICA Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) through mentorship and academic support.

• Apply theoretical knowledge to real-world business scenarios across Shoprite operations.

Operational Exposure

• Support accounting teams in daily operations, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education:

  • Final year student enrolled in a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA), Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA), or Honours in Accounting at a SAICA-accredited university.

  • Graduates with an Honours in Accounting, PGDA, or CTA, who are eligible to write or have passed the SAICA ITC board exam.
